Investigators are trying to figure out why 2 helicopters collided in Oregon, killing 3 people
Federal investigators in Oregon are working to determine why two helicopters collided during a test flight, killing all three people aboard both aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board said Friday it was sending a team to examine the wreckage near McMinnville, about an hour southwest of Portland. The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Thursday on a cloudy day in Oregon’s Willamette Valley wine country. Law enforcement photos showed a red helicopter in a farm field and a green helicopter resting upside down. The victims included Tyler Sturdevant, Maddie Aasbo, and a 31-year-old student pilot from the United Kingdom. Officials said the Robinson R22 was on an instructional flight, while an Airbus AS350B3 was on a maintenance flight. Owners said they are cooperating with authorities.
