Iran targeted US air defenses then hit aircraft and buildings on...
Iran’s strikes on more than two dozen U.S. bases in the Middle East reportedly focused first on early-warning and detection systems before hitting aircraft and buildings, according to an Associated Press analysis. Using independently verified satellite imagery and interviews with four regional officials, the AP says that through August more than 115 drone or missile strikes attributed to Iran or Iranian-backed militias damaged or destroyed structures on 26 military bases and other sites with U.S. equipment. Damage to aircraft hangars and detection systems was followed by attacks on warehouses and troop housing, reshaping America’s footprint and prompting the U.S. to move many assets out of the Persian Gulf, the officials said. The findings raise questions about U.S. defenses as President Donald Trump weighs new strikes after Tuesday’s midterm elections and Tehran vows retaliation.
