JetBlue passenger plane hit by drone on JFK approach
JetBlue said its Flight 948, an Airbus A321 arriving at New York’s JFK from Las Vegas, reported striking a drone on final approach this morning. The pilot contacted air traffic control at about 7:15 a.m., telling controllers that the aircraft collided with the drone “right above the cockpit.” According to Flightradar24 data, the suspected strike occurred at roughly 3,000 feet near Sea Bright, New Jersey, about 10 to 12 miles from JFK. The plane landed safely six minutes later, and post-flight inspections found no evidence of damage, JetBlue and the FAA said. The FAA is investigating. The incident follows a Friday near-miss involving a United Airlines crew reporting a drone about 100 feet below an aircraft approaching Newark. Authorities have seized more than 300 drones near World Cup venues since June 11, and the FAA said it is unclear whether the JFK event is related.
