Jets Player Facing Punishment From NFL After Loss to Patriots
Rookie edge rusher David Bailey could face an NFL fine after being flagged for roughing the passer during the second quarter of the New York Jets’ loss to the New England Patriots. The infraction came on a first-and-10 from the Jets’ 30-yard line, extending a drive that ended with quarterback Drake Maye completing a pass to DeMario Douglas for 11 yards plus 10 more on the penalty. Under league rules, a first offense for roughing the passer can cost up to $17,911, while a second can reach $23,882. Bailey’s season numbers have drawn attention—he has 30+ total tackles, 5.0+ sacks, and a forced fumble through six career games—yet Jets coach Aaron Glenn cited a miscommunication that led Bailey to drop into coverage on one of Maye’s three touchdown passes. Only Bailey was flagged for a potentially fineable offense in the game, though Patriots defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones also drew a roughing-the-passer call.
