Killed when private plane crashes into Maryland woods: Officials
A private plane crash into Maryland woods ended a search for a missing aircraft, killing the three people aboard, according to officials. The single-engine Piper Cherokee departed Ocean City, New Jersey, at about 11:30 p.m. ET Saturday and was en route to Montgomery County Air Park in Maryland when it went down near Bowie, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Search and rescue efforts began immediately after receiving an iPhone crash alert from Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications roughly 15 minutes after takeoff. Maryland State Police said investigators recovered the bodies of three adult men from the wreckage in a wooded area close to a residential neighborhood. Authorities have not released names pending notification of relatives, and the NTSB and FAA are investigating the crash.
