Landmark jet begins journey back to Coltishall (with traffic cone on its nose!)
A “landmark” jet in Norfolk has begun its journey back to RAF Coltishall, where it served for years as a “gate guardian.” The aircraft, a Jaguar known as the “Spirit of Coltishall,” has been displayed at Norfolk County Council’s County Hall headquarters since 2007, after the closure of RAF Coltishall. Volunteers from the RAF Coltishall Heritage Trust removed it from its pedestal over the weekend for a £35,000 restoration project. The plan is to take the Jaguar to the former base at Scottow in the coming days, after removing the wings and underwing pods. While temporarily placed on disabled spaces at County Hall, the plane is supported by wooden pallets and has a traffic cone on its nose. The restoration includes weathering and corrosion repairs, structural stabilization, and a full repaint, with the aircraft expected to return to County Hall next year.
