Man dies after being restrained by passengers on flight from Cyprus to UK
A police investigation has been launched after a man died following restraint by passengers on a flight from Cyprus to the UK. Greater Manchester Police said Callum Kerr, 35, was restrained by passengers and crew on the Larnaca-to-Manchester flight after reports of aggressive behavior and an assault on a passenger and a member of cabin crew. Officers were called at about 2:25 a.m. on Monday, boarded the aircraft on arrival, and found Kerr restrained at the rear of the plane. Police said handcuffs were used to detain him, CPR was started after he was found unresponsive, and he died in hospital on Tuesday. A mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct was made because of police contact before his death. The inquiry will examine officers’ actions, while a separate GMP investigation considers the public’s involvement.
