MEPs demand ethics probe into FIFA boss after Trump's 'Peace Prize'
More than 50 European Parliament members are backing an ethics probe into FIFA chief Gianni Infantino following his awarding of the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize, a move they say breached political neutrality. The demand, supported through a letter seen by the Mirror, references the FIFA Peace Prize given to U.S. President Donald Trump and calls on the FIFA Ethics Committee to investigate the decision and ensure due process. The complaint was first submitted by the London-based NGO FairSquare, and the Norwegian Football Federation is also backing it, as part of a broader coalition against Infantino. MEP Barry Andrews of Ireland argued that FIFA is meant to unite the world but loses credibility when it favors one president over another. The article also notes Infantino faced backlash over travel, including alleged extensive private-jet flying during the World Cup and BBC-linked tracking findings.
