Mystery Wi-Fi network aboard flight raises 'unusual' alarm about travelers' information

A Delta Air Lines flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta on Monday, Aug. 10 was temporarily disrupted after an unauthorized Wi-Fi network appeared onboard, prompting the crew to shut down the plane’s internet service. Delta said none of its systems—including the in-flight Wi-Fi—were hacked and that no aircraft operating systems were affected. Cabin crew disabled Wi-Fi for about 30 minutes while the situation was assessed, and air traffic control did not declare an emergency. The flight later continued to Atlanta normally. Delta is investigating and will work with federal law enforcement and aviation regulators. A travel expert said unauthorized onboard networks are uncommon and urged passengers to connect only to the network identified by the airline.
