Italian Eurofighter jets operating under NATO’s Baltic air-policing mission shot down an unidentified drone over Lithuania early Tuesday, after it entered the country from Belarus and flew for roughly 30 minutes. The incident marked the first time an allied drone-downing occurred over the Baltic nation by NATO aircraft. Intercepted shortly after midnight, the unmanned aircraft was visually assessed as a potential threat by pilots before being destroyed near Pratkūnai village in the Kaišiadorys district, west of Vilnius. Lithuanian authorities recovered debris and are investigating the drone’s origin and whether it carried explosives.
