Only Took 20 Years of Privacy Invasion to Get a Bottle of Water Through a TSA Checkpoint

A report referencing The New York Times says TSA has discussed loosening the liquids rules at airport checkpoints, potentially allowing TSA PreCheck members to bring larger water bottles through screening at select airports. The proposal, attributed to John Pistole, the former TSA head, would likely not start before the high-volume holiday season and could begin with a trial. The article notes TSA’s current “3-1-1” policy limits containers to no more than 3.4 oz in a single quart-sized clear bag per person. It also cites other recent pilots tied to PreCheck, including letting eligible travelers pass with someone they’re meeting or accompanying, and in some places removing the need to take off shoes.
