Orbán files criminal complaint over former FM Szijjártó's countless private jet travels
xCruzo Brief
Hungary’s Foreign Minister Anita Orbán has filed a criminal complaint over alleged misuse of private and military aircraft for official travel during Péter Szijjártó’s tenure as foreign minister. Orbán says an internal Foreign Ministry review found “serious irregularities” and claims that routinely chartering aircraft from 2022 onward caused major added costs to the state, even though the number and type of diplomatic engagements did not change significantly. She estimates that private flights between 2022 and 2026 cost about HUF 4 billion (over EUR 10.9 million) more than scheduled services, excluding military aircraft. Fidesz dismissed the complaint as “frivolous.”
