Paying for Inflight Comfort: Upgraded Points Study Reveals the Real Cost of Extra Legroom
Paying for inflight comfort is quantified in a new Upgraded Points study that reveals the real cost of extra legroom. The study analyzed over 5,000 flights on America's 10 busiest domestic routes during May 2026. It categorized seats into below-average (28-29.9 inches), average (30-30.9 inches), and above-average (31-33 inches) legroom, then compared corresponding ticket prices. Across these routes, average prices rose from $188 for below-average to $276 for above-average legroom, an $88 premium for the most spacious seats. The analysis notes the cost gaps grow for couples and families traveling together. JetBlue Airways appeared most often with above-average space, while Frontier Airlines tended to have the tightest economy layouts on the studied routes.
