Porter Airlines betting travellers will embrace Montreal's second airport - Wings Magazine
Porter Airlines bets travelers will embrace Montreal's second airport on the South Shore. Commercial service begins today from the Saint-Hubert terminal, with Porter launching 11 Canadian destinations including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. Chief executive Michael Deluce says bookings have already exceeded expectations and predicts the airport will quickly become the 'talk of the town.' Porter’s research indicates about half of the Montreal area population can reach Saint-Hubert faster than Trudeau International, which the airline believes will attract frequent travelers and business customers. Transportation experts say it may take time to shift travel habits. Archie Huang of Concordia University notes decisions hinge on destination, price and flight frequency, not convenience alone. Jacques Roy of HEC Montréal adds the service could appeal to South Shore residents seeking competitive fares. Analysts acknowledge reliability and schedules will influence adoption, particularly for business travelers who value consistency. If the service gains traction, Roy says it could broaden options for regional commerce and tourism, though success will depend on demand and pricing.
