Romania summons Russian envoy as it shoots down third intruding drone
Romania has summoned Russia’s ambassador after reporting it shot down three drones over the country in as many days. The Romanian Ministry of Defence said a Romanian aircraft intercepted and destroyed a drone following an incursion on Sunday morning, after similar interceptions on Friday and Saturday. Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu said Bucharest summoned the ambassador to protest the “repeated violations,” warning that the airspace is also that of NATO and the European Union. An F-16 also shot down an unmanned aircraft over the Black Sea on Sunday, and an investigation found Friday’s drone was a Shahed model used in Russia’s war against Ukraine. NATO officials said the drone activity may be aimed at testing defences, while Russia and Ukraine continue trading large drone and missile attacks, including strikes that killed two people in Kyiv overnight.
