Russia's FSB says it foiled Ukrainian attack on air bases deep inside Russia
Russia’s FSB says it foiled a Ukrainian attack on air bases deep inside Russia, detailing an alleged plot involving drones and balloons. The Federal Security Service said on Monday that it disrupted a series of attempted large-scale Ukrainian drone attacks targeting two military air bases: Shagol in Russia’s Ural mountains and Ukrainka in the far east. TASS reported the FSB statement that the attackers were detained and that Ukraine used balloons and drones to deliver containers loaded with drones into Russia’s Bryansk region before moving them toward the targets. The claim echoes a 2025 incident involving the Ukrainka base in which the United States said about 10 Russian aircraft were destroyed. The reports were carried by Reuters, citing TASS.
