Southwest is overhauling its frequent flyer program. Here's what's changing
xCruzo Brief
Southwest Airlines is reshaping its Rapid Rewards elite program by replacing its current A-List and A-List Preferred tiers with a simpler three-level structure—silver, gold and platinum—starting Jan. 1. The airline will also adjust how customers earn status and reshape companion benefits along the way. Under the new system, A-List members shift to Silver and A-List Preferred members move to Gold. Silver requires 35,000 Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) or 25 qualifying flights, with a higher flight points bonus. Gold needs 65,000 TQPs or 50 flights. Platinum, for the most engaged customers, requires 140,000 TQPs or 100 flights and offers unlimited Companion Pass trips.
