More than 30 finished Boeing 777-9 aircraft are parked in Washington State, including Paine Field and Moses Lake, even though Boeing is still working through remaining certification steps and targeting first deliveries in 2027. The issue isn’t that the airframes are incomplete, but that some were built before the final production standard was set, leaving them needing modifications to match the configuration Boeing intends to deliver. Media reports say airlines still want the 777-9, but the earliest examples could carry operational and financial disadvantages. Lufthansa, a launch customer with 20 aircraft on order, says it is discussing with Boeing which early-built airplanes it will accept and what compensation would be required.
