Tri-Cities Airport in Tennessee is pushing to grow its air service and general aviation, aiming to attract new flights and persuade regional travelers to fly locally rather than drive to larger airports. Speaking at the State of the Airport event at East Tennessee State University’s Martin Center, President and CEO Gene Cossey said the airport is shifting from a “utility” model to a business approach. The airport currently offers commercial flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Orlando, Washington, D.C., and St. Petersburg. American launched Tri-Cities–Chicago O’Hare in May and Breeze began nonstop routes to Orlando and Washington Dulles, with the Dulles service ending after Nov. 30.
