TSA pays tribute to 9/11 victims on 25th anniversary of attacks

The Transportation Security Administration marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a tribute to nearly 3,000 people killed. Friday’s observance also recalled how the tragedy led to the creation of TSA and reinforced the agency’s mission to protect the nation’s transportation systems. TSA was established after President George W. Bush signed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act on Nov. 19, 2001, tasking TSA with strengthening security and restoring confidence in aviation. Administrator David P. Cummins said TSA’s workforce has carried out the mission with “vigilance” and “professionalism.” The agency has since expanded into intelligence-driven security, now employing about 60,000 people, using technologies like computed tomography scanners and facial comparison.
