United Airlines and DIRECTV Team Up to Stream Live TV - Including Live Sports - on Starlink-Enabled Seatback Screens this summer highlights a new inflight entertainment deal tied to Starlink connectivity. United Airlines and DIRECTV will offer live streaming TV on United seatback screens for passengers on Starlink-enabled aircraft through July 20, reaching as many as 150 aircraft. The article says customers will get free access to more than a dozen live channels through DIRECTV and BBC, including FOX, Fox Sports 1, Apple F1, ABC, ESPN, TNT, CNN, CBS, NBC, TBS and BBC News, covering live soccer, sports, news, weather, business and entertainment. It also references United’s 2024 agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink Wi-Fi to its mainline and regional fleets for MileagePlus members. Starlink is already active on more than 400 United aircraft, and United expects to equip its entire fleet by the end of 2027. The company will use “Viasat Live TV” and “Thales 360” web-enabled applications with Starlink for playback on seatback screens.
