Uzbekistan's Andijan airport to boost annual flights to 2,500 after upgrade

Uzbekistan plans to invest 1.1 trillion soums (about $93 million) to modernize Andijan International Airport, aiming to lift capacity and expand service. A statement from Uzbekistan’s presidential administration says the upgrade will increase annual passenger capacity to 3.5 million and raise annual flights to 2,500 following a visit by the president to the Andijan region. The first project stage includes a runway extension to 3.3 kilometers, construction of a new 60-meter-wide Category 4E runway, and taxiways and parking areas for 10 aircraft. A German-made lighting system and reinforced concrete runway surface are designed to support operations with visibility down to 300 meters and improve service life up to 50 years.
