WestJet’s flight attendants are ending a strike after reaching a tentative wage agreement with the airline, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said Monday. The labor action had already led to hundreds of cancellations. CUPE represents 4,400 flight attendants and pushed for pay from the time members check in until they clock out, rather than mostly only for periods when the aircraft is in motion. Union president Alia Hussain said the deal updates the flight credit system by recognizing more cabin crew work and includes general increases in compensation. WestJet had called off talks on Sunday and canceled 615 flights through August 4, according to Cirium. The airline, majority owned by Onex Corp, previously offered a 13% raise this year plus 2.5% increases annually through 2029, and added pay for all hours worked.
