A near-collision at Boston Logan International Airport underscored how quickly conditions can change on busy runways. On Saturday at about 11:34 a.m. ET, an American Airlines flight cleared for takeoff earlier and a rapidly approaching Delta Air Lines aircraft scheduled to land came within 300 feet, according to FlightRadar24. The Delta pilot, arriving from Dallas, told the tower he would execute a go-around to avoid the American jet headed to Charlotte, North Carolina. After abandoning the initial landing, controllers instructed the Delta crew to “maintain 3,000” feet twice. The aircraft landed about 10 minutes later at 11:45 a.m. ET. FAA confirmation cited the American departure using an intersecting runway. The incident follows other recent aviation accidents reported in the U.S. and Maryland.
