After diesel removal, California crews now face 50 tons of dead squid on stranded boat

A 58-foot fishing boat ran aground at Point Reyes National Seashore and, after crews removed about 1,400 gallons of diesel along with 175 gallons of hydraulic and lubricating oil, it was no longer leaking fuel. But the cleanup is still ongoing because roughly 50 tons of dead squid remain aboard the Lake Bay, reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. The U.S. Coast Guard said the vessel has been moved outside the active surf zone to reduce immediate pollution risk, shifting the operation from emergency response to salvage and recovery. Disposal is likely the practical route once the seafood is deemed safe for human use.
