Alan Liere's hunting and fishing report for Oct. 1, 2026
Angler reports for Oct. 1, 2026 describe generally active fishing across Idaho, Washington, and nearby waters, with conditions shifting toward fall hatches and deeper presentations. The North Fork Clearwater/Kelly Creek remains strong for October caddis and Mahogany dun mayflies, while the Clark Fork near St. Regis has fish holding in slower water but still taking hoppers and low-profile Chernobyls. Reports also cite good action on the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene and St. Joe rivers, plus improving trout fishing on Lake Chelan where lake trout gather near rocky bottoms for spawning. On the Columbia River, coho retention is allowed between Priest Rapids Dam and Rock Island Dam, with additional coho rules on the Icicle River and closures/gear limits.
