Alaska SeaLife Center cares for 6 harbor seal pups after one was found in mud, another wounded

The Alaska SeaLife Center is caring for six harbor seal pups as Alaska’s busy wildlife rescue season continues. The cases include one pup found orphaned and trapped in mud near Tyonek, and another rescued from Whittier Harbor with multiple wounds, according to Your Alaska Link. After several admissions in recent weeks, the rehabilitation count reached six. One newly admitted pup was euthanized after intensive veterinary treatment failed to halt worsening, though most animals are improving. Officials said the remaining pups are reportedly doing well under individualized treatment plans and continued monitoring. The center noted that successful rehabilitations often require multiple groups, including coastal communities, tribal conservation groups, families and volunteers. Harbor seals are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
