Buccaneers name captains for the 2026 season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers have set their 2026 team captains after a player vote, with six veterans earning the honor. Quarterback Baker Mayfield, tackle Tristan Wirfs, wide receiver Chris Godwin, nose tackle Vita Vea, linebacker Alex Anzalone and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. will wear the captain’s “C” during the season. Mayfield, Wirfs, Vea and Winfield return as captains from 2025. Godwin returns to the role after serving as captain in 2023. Anzalone becomes a captain for the first time in Tampa Bay, joining the leadership group after previously being a captain each of his five seasons with the Detroit Lions. The changes follow the offseason departures of Lavonte David, who retired after 14 seasons, and Mike Evans, who signed with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency. Tampa Bay kicks off Week 1 on the road at the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
