Council plans new team to tackle Loughborough nuisances
Charnwood Borough Council’s cabinet is being asked to approve a new team of public space officers to patrol Loughborough and curb anti-social behaviour, with proposals set for decision on 12 November. The Labour-run council says the service would cost about £250,000 per year and include four full-time public space officers plus a part-time business support role. The move follows a final consultation on a new public spaces protection order (PSPO), which would extend rules including a ban on wearing face coverings. It would also restrict riding bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters “dangerous, careless or inconsiderate,” ban loitering causing nuisance, and target public urination or defecation. Non-compliance would bring fixed penalties of £100, or £50 if paid within a set period.
