The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed left-handed hitter Jesus Sanchez off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, creating both immediate lineup value and longer-term potential for their playoff push. The move required Arizona to clear a spot on its 40-man roster, and it chose to send versatile infielder Tommy Troy back to the minors by optioning him. Troy, 24, avoided waivers because he still had minor-league options remaining. In 45 MLB games, Troy hit .217 with a .638 OPS, compared with .313 and .879 OPS at Triple-A Reno this year. Arizona now needs him to re-prove his role.
