Dispatches from the Campaign Trail | Cranbrook, East Kootenay, Kimberley
Residents in RDEK Electoral Area E will vote to select a new Director for the Regional District of East Kootenay board on October 17. In a door-to-door campaign spanning the past four weeks, the candidate says each community in Area E—St. Mary Lake, Porteous Rd., Meadowbrook, Woods Corner, Ta Ta Creek, Skookumchuck, Wasa, Lazy Lake and Premiere Lake—faces distinct issues. Priorities include completing the St. Mary Lake regional park; addressing fire prevention and a Highway 95A left-turn lane; tackling Meadowbrook’s water shortages and boil-water advisories through pump-house work and an aquifer study; and supporting FireSmart efforts after a wildfire near Ta Ta Creek. Concerns also extend to Skookumchuck’s transfer-station closure and Wasa’s water clarity impacts from wake boats.
