Drones attack Makhachkala port, fires reported in Dagestan

Drones attacked Russia’s Makhachkala port during the night of 9-10 September, with residents reporting explosions, according to Ukrainian media citing Russian outlet Astra and local officials. Acting head of Dagestan Fyodor Shchukin and Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ said there was no air-raid warning as Russian air defenses responded. Telegram channels claimed the Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port may have been the target and suffered a hit. The port is described as Russia’s only ice-free deep-water harbor on the Caspian Sea and processes both liquid and dry cargo year-round. Authorities also reported an explosion at the Gamzat Tsadasa Avar Music and Drama Theatre, where fires were quickly extinguished after debris fell.
