East Lothian RNLI crew called to 'mystery at sea' after lights seen on empty vessel
An RNLI crew from East Lothian responded to reports of “mystery” lights on the night before Halloween aboard an empty vessel in North Berwick. RNLI North Berwick was deployed at 10:03 p.m. on Friday, October 30, after volunteers received the alert. Police Scotland and the North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team arrived first at West Bay, reporting that it appeared someone might be on board; inquiries confirmed it was not the owner. Using powerful search lights and night-vision equipment, the RNLI team searched moored vessels, surrounding waters and rocks, but found nothing. The lights were ultimately attributed to reflections from shore lights in cabin windows, looking like torches as the boat moved. With no casualties reported, the lifeboat stood down and returned to station.
