Ebola in DR Congo: River boat under quarantine after five deaths

Congolese authorities have put a river boat under quarantine after deaths linked to Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Yingfeng 2, operated by a Chinese company, was intercepted near Bende Bende port on the Congo River, about 65km upstream from Kinshasa, carrying 255 passengers. Health Minister Roger Kamba said screening for Ebola and cholera began after a passenger who had disembarked earlier died in hospital with fever and diarrhoea; three other adults, a 3-year-old child and a newborn also died. Teams from the health ministry and the WHO boarded and set up a mobile lab. Kamba said no positives had been detected so far, with Ebola incubation monitoring expected to continue for 21 days.
