Fishhook Fire, Green Ridge Fire near Steamboat Springs continue to burn ahead of another hot day
Two Colorado wildfires near Steamboat Springs—Fishhook Fire and Green Ridge Fire—continued burning into Monday, with officials expecting growth for Fishhook and maintaining evacuations for Green Ridge. Fishhook Fire was reported around noon Sunday near the head of Walton Creek in Routt National Forest, burning 94 acres as of Sunday evening, according to Inciweb. Fire officials said it is about one mile southeast of the ski resort and 1.5 miles north of Highway 40, while aircraft crews would assess overnight growth Monday. The Green Ridge Fire is burning on private land south of Highway 40 near Stagecoach Reservoir, and it also started Sunday. Evacuations remained in place, and evacuees could go to SOROCO High School in Oak Creek, expected to close at 8 p.m. Monday. Stagecoach Reservoir was closed to boating as firefighting aircraft use its water. With temperatures forecast near 95 degrees and light winds, the cause for both fires is under investigation, and smoke may affect air quality across Routt County.
