Flat tire on I-90 leads to surprise encounter with Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert
A flat tire on westbound I-90 in May led to a surprise encounter for Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert, according to a lighthearted roadside assistance story shared by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). WSDOT said Incident Response Team responder Mick Hedquist pulled over to check on the vehicle even though roadside assistance was already present. He stayed to add traffic protection during the tire change and to help everyone get back on the road safely. Hedquist later recognized Gilbert when walking back to his truck and asked for an autograph and a photo because Gilbert is the favorite Mariners player of his daughter. The signed item is now framed at home. WSDOT also reminded drivers to move over or slow down when they see Incident Response Team vehicles and other roadside crews stopped.
