Investigations are ongoing, but Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao reported the suspected cause was a lightning strike that hit the farms’ solar panels. The farms are located off Lorong Halus jetty near Pasir Ris, close to Pulau Ubin and Pulau Ketam. One owner estimated losses of up to S$120,000 and said he could not file an insurance claim. The fire damaged equipment including feed, generators, solar panels, a fishing boat and at least three fish traps, and nets were damaged, causing at least half the stock to escape.
