General Staff: Russia has lost 1,393,140 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022
Russia has lost around 1,393,140 troops in Ukraine since the start of its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, Ukraine’s General Staff said on June 22. The figure includes 1,190 casualties suffered by Russian forces over the previous day. The same update compiled Russian equipment losses, citing 12,050 tanks, 24,805 armored combat vehicles, 110,201 vehicles and fuel tanks, 44,530 artillery systems, and 33 ships and boats, among other categories. It also reported 436 aircraft and 353 helicopters, plus 366,164 drones and two submarines. Ukraine’s General Staff did not disclose its own losses, citing operational secrecy. Western think-tank assessments cited by Ukraine broadly indicate Russian casualties exceed Ukraine’s, with CSIS estimating a roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1 ratio. A January 2026 CSIS report projected Ukrainian casualties of 500,000 to 600,000 between February 2022 and December 2025, including 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action.
