Greece Orders Seven New Coast Guard Patrol Vessels
Greece has ordered seven new high-speed Coast Guard patrol vessels in a €23.8 million investment to strengthen surveillance of its waters, protect maritime borders and expand search-and-rescue capability. The procurement contract was signed by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias during a ceremony at the ministry. All seven boats will be built entirely in Greece as MAGNAR 1950 patrol vessels. Measuring 21.29 meters, they are designed for speeds of at least 50 knots and a range of at least 320 nautical miles. Each vessel will be crewed by six and can carry at least 30 people total, with modern navigation and communications equipment suited for rescue operations. Deliveries are expected to begin within six to 12 months.
