A restored, more-than-100-year-old historic vessel, the Mirene, is listed as a potential new home on the San Francisco Bay after being rescued from salvage. The houseboat is berthed at 13 S 40 Dock in Sausalito’s Waldo Point Harbor. Once abandoned after years of service, it was bought as salvage in 1981 by entrepreneur Ryan Phelan and writer/editor/designer Stewart Brand. Their research traced Mirene’s origins as a working tugboat built in the early 20th century in Oregon, later used as a gas schooner and cannery tender in Alaska, then as a river tug in the Pacific Northwest.
