Iran state media says U.S. attacked fishing boats near Qeshm Island
Iranian state media reported that the United States attacked two fishing boats near Qeshm Island, leaving two fishermen missing and one wounded, citing a Hormozgan province official. The IRIB report provided no immediate confirmation from the U.S., and the incident adds to security concerns while diplomatic efforts continue to try to end an eight-month conflict. Separately, Pakistan’s military said it is “cautiously optimistic” about its mediation between Washington and Tehran, pointing to two visits by army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to Tehran this month, though it warned of “powerful spoilers and detractors.” In Washington, President Donald Trump said he expected the war to end soon but said any settlement would require a guarantee Iran would never possess a nuclear weapon, and he previously said the U.S. would not strike before the November 3 midterm elections.
