Katie Zacharia is out after 5 days as White House press secretary

Katie Zacharia was dismissed Friday as White House press secretary after less than a week on the job, according to three people familiar with the matter. President Donald Trump told reporters he had encouraged Zacharia to “reconsider” the position. “Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,” Trump said, recounting his conversation with her, adding, “Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need this.” Neither the White House nor Zacharia responded to requests for comment. Zacharia’s first and final press briefing occurred Tuesday and was followed by a flood of headlines questioning whether she had misrepresented herself as a lawyer; Trump referred to her as “an attorney” despite her failing the bar exam.
