Lammens sent eight-word Man United message shortly after costly World Cup error
Manchester United sent a supportive message to Senne Lammens after a costly error during Belgium’s World Cup quarter-final against Spain. Lammens, 24, had been called up as the understudy to Thibault Courtois, and did not expect to play in the USA, Mexico and Canada. However, Courtois suffered a thigh injury in the second half and Lammens came on. In the 88th minute, he let a shot from Pau Cubarsí slip into the path of Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino, who scored the winning goal from close range. Belgium were eliminated in the last eight in Los Angeles. After the match, United posted an eight-word Instagram message: “Head up, Senne. We’re all with you.” Courtois also backed him, saying the moment “shouldn’t be blamed on him,” while noting Lammens’ bright future.
