Least 109 dead including children after migrant boat capsizes off Djibouti

At least 109 people, including 15 children, died when a boat carrying 350 migrants capsized off the coast of Djibouti, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). More than 116 others were still missing after the incident near Guhere, north of Obock, during the night of 8-9 October. Survivors said the vessel was traveling from Djibouti to Yemen. The IOM reported 52 recovered bodies were men, 42 were women and 15 were children, while over 80 survivors—identified as Ethiopian nationals—were rescued. The IOM said it is providing healthcare, psychosocial support, food and other assistance to 64 survivors at its Obock response centre as authorities continue search and rescue.
