xCruzo Brief
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an illegal waste dump found near Newcastle Airport. The Environment Agency (EA) estimates about 400 tonnes of commercial waste were discovered at Callerton Hill during the summer. Additional illegal dumping was identified at the former Dewhirst Site in Peterlee and at Hart Quarry in Hartlepool. The 29-year-old was arrested on Monday at a property near Preston, Lancashire, in a joint operation involving Lancashire Police and the EA. A 32-year-old man was previously arrested in Sunderland over the other two sites. All three locations were reported, shut down, and blocked off with concrete; the Callerton site has since been cleared.
