Michigan captains 'haven't skipped a beat' despite reduced roles
Michigan captains Bryce Underwood and Jordan Marshall have seen reduced roles in recent weeks, but teammates say their leadership remains steady. After Underwood was benched at halftime Oct. 17 against Penn State, freshman Tommy Carr made his second straight start in Saturday’s 28-21 win over Rutgers. Marshall played a season-low 19 snaps and finished with zero rushing yards on five carries. Despite the on-field changes, fellow captain Trey Pierce said the captains “haven’t skipped a beat.” Coach Kyle Whittingham named Carr the starter “for the foreseeable future,” adding that Carr’s snap distribution leaned toward freshman Savion Hiter, who had the hot hand Saturday. Underwood, the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, helped Carr prepare after losing the starting job.
