MoD investigating after Russian warship fires warning shots at British yacht

The MoD is investigating after a Russian warship fired warning shots at a UK-registered yacht in the English Channel, signaling continuing strain with Moscow. The incident involved the Admiral Grigorovich frigate about 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight, outside UK waters, on Tuesday. The 12-metre Bright Future sailing yacht reported shots at roughly 500 yards (457 metres). Royal Navy vessels, including HMS Mersey and a boat from HMS Tyne, shadowed the ship and checked on the crew. The MoD confirmed it is examining reports of the Channel incident, while the Russian embassy and defence ministry provided competing accounts of provocation and adherence to shipping rules.
