Muslims in France May Leave if Marine Le Pen Wins Election
A new Ifop survey suggests nearly half of France’s Muslim population would consider leaving the country if Marine Le Pen wins the 2027 presidential election. The poll finds 46% of Muslim respondents would contemplate emigrating under a Le Pen presidency, with 20% saying they would “certainly” leave. Concern is widespread: 81% believe a Le Pen victory would bring greater aggression and discrimination against Muslims, and 27% say they might even hide their religious identity. Le Pen, leader of the hard-Right National Rally, has drawn criticism for proposals to curb what she calls “Islamist ideologies,” including a fine for wearing a hijab in public and a referendum-backed bill to ban the “Islamist headscarf.” The survey of 9,689 adults also shows majority support for restrictions on Islamic clothing and symbols.
