What Can A Sailboat Teach You That A Classroom Can't?

The TED Radio Hour episode “Have we forgotten how to play?” (Part 2) follows Tracy Edwards, expelled from school and later drawn to working on boats. That path helped her build a record-breaking all-female sailing crew that circled the world in 1989. Edwards later became skipper of the first all-women crew to sail around the globe, racing in the 1989/90 Whitbread Round the World Race, winning two legs and finishing second overall in her class. She received an MBE, became the first woman awarded the Yachtsman of the Year Trophy, and in 2002 created a truly mixed-gender team, breaking four world records on Maiden II.
