Industry leaders believe the worst may be over for US boat sales, as high participation in boating persists despite softer new-boat demand. Nearly 85 million Americans boat each year, but new powerboat retail units fell 8.8% in 2025, to 215,237 from 236,070 in 2024. In the twelve months up to November 2025 the decline was 8.6% to 215,736. Factors include high interest rates, inflation, and weaker consumer confidence, which hit entry-level buyers hardest. NMMA expects 2026 sales near 2025 levels, aided by smaller, trailerable models; about 40% of executives are optimistic about the year ahead.
